Teaching with GIS in California's K-12 Education

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

This panel discussion seeks to bring the awareness and discussion of the inclusion and support of geospatial technology in K-12 education. A good example would be the new California History-Social Science Framework. What is the current curriculum framework and development involved with GIS in K-12 schools? What is the support system for K-12 GIS education from higher education and other services? How do we as GIS professionals can help to provide guidance and to push a successful implementation of GIS education in California’s K-12 schools?

Panelists:
Marc Epstein, Director, California Environmental Technology Education Network, Carmichael, CA
Katsuhiko “Kirk” Oda, Ph.D., GISP, Assistant Professor (Teaching), Spatial Sciences Institute, University of Southern California

Karen Koenig-Sanko, Ed.D., Teacher, James Rutter Middle School, Sacramento, CA
