Mike is a M.S. student in the Geographic Information Science and Technology Program at the University of Southern California’s Spatial Sciences Institute (Los Angeles, CA). A returned Peace Corps Volunteer from Burkina Faso, Mike holds degrees in International Development Technology from Humboldt State University (Arcata, CA) and Plant and Environmental Sciences from New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, NM). He studied constructed wetlands for treating community wastewater in Senegal, and land application of industrial wastewater in New Mexico. As a professional, he has performed ecosystem monitoring and managed EPA grants for Native American tribes. Mike has a strong interest in biochar, or carbonized biomass used as an agricultural soil amendment. His thesis involves building a spatial database of biochar research and practice using Esri’s Collector for ArcGIS mobile application in tandem with a web-GIS application developed using Esri’s Web App Builder.
